Overview
Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a complication of diabetes that leads to irreversible blindness if not adequately managed. However, there is currently no population-based data available on the prevalence of DR in Vietnam. High-quality evidence on the prevalence of DR in Vietnam and risk factors associated with this condition is needed to inform the delivery of DR services, the plan for adequate government-level responses, and to advocate for the allocation of the necessary resources to manage the condition. The primary aim of this study is to estimate the prevalence of DR and its severity among adults in Da Nang City and Binh Dinh Province in Vietnam. The study also aims to identify the risk factors associated with DR in the study population. The data collection included three steps: (1) Collect Demographic and Behavioural Characteristic Data; (2) Physical Measurements; and (3) Visual Acuity Check, Biochemical Measurements, and Retinal Image Taken. The total sample size in each province in the study is 700 participants with 14 clusters and 50 subjects in each.
