Consultant on conduct of “Responsible Seafood: Domestic Demand Analysis”
Đơn vị tài trợ WWF
Time
March – May 2016
Overview
WWF is committing to focus its support on: better production, sustainable supply chains, policies & frameworks, accelerating domestic demand for certified products and influencing financial flows.
Relating to promoting domestic consumption of responsible/certified seafood, some of the challenges are identified as below: 1) the Vietnamese public are not aware of their right to request responsible/certified products and therefore exert no consumer pressure on retailers; 2) the production of responsible/certified seafood is driven by the international market and current production capacity is only sufficient to meet that international demand; 3) Supermarket have limited understanding of the terminology and socio-economic and environmental benefit of different product classifications, e.g. “certified sustainable”, “green and clean”, “organic”. Almost no certified seafood products are sold in the domestic market.
Through interviewing with top retailers and producers of seafood (with the focus on shrimp and cat fish), the assignment aims to increase understanding of the opportunities, challenges and concerns of both retailers and producers, with the longer term aim of the market working together to promote domestic consumption of responsible seafood in Vietnam.
