Overview

DEPOCEN is selected to conduct a seven-month monitoring project which aims at providing evidence on Tobacco Advertising and Promotion violations targeting and encouraging children to smoke by the tobacco industry in general and by tobacco retailers surrounding schools in particular. The outcomes of the project is to provide data based evidence and recommendations for implementing laws and regulations on Tobacco Advertising and Promotion and strengthening the enforcement of Tobacco Advertising and Promotion ban. This project also makes a contribution to the global TakeApart campaign.

Services provided

We performed a wide range of activities in the data collecting period, including: (i) Conduct monitoring activities at approximately 210 schools in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city, including 25 high schools, 40 secondary schools, and 40 primary schools in each city (105 schools per city); (ii) Use the Global Positioning System (GPS) to locate retailers within a 100-meter radius surrounding selected schools; and (iii) Identify tobacco retailers in the designated areas and monitor them using Kobotoolbox form integrated with taking pictures, and detect whether they are violating the Tobacco Advertising and Promotion regulations.
