Grassroots mediation of the Vietnam Lawyers Association – Assessing the current situation, identifying good practices/models, and proposing initiatives to resolving disputes at the commune level

Overview
To assess the actual role of Vietnam Lawyers Association’s members (VLA) and mechanisms in grassroots mediation identify good practices/models, and propose initiatives to enhance the role of VLA in grassroots conciliation, enabling VLA’s members to participate fully and effectively in resolving disputes at the commune level, responding to the demand and under the EU Justice and Legal Empowerment Program (EU JULE) which is a partnership between the EU and the Government of Viet Nam, jointly implemented by UNDP and UNICEF from 2017 to 2020, the Vietnam Lawyers Association in collaboration with UNDP and assigned DEPOCEN to conduct a survey on current situation of Vietnam Lawyers’ Association in grassroots mediation.
Qualitative and quantitative surveys conducted in Soc Trang, Ha Tinh and Dien Bien. In total, there are 230 individuals at management level (legal managers and relevant stakeholders) and grassroots level (mediators and beneficiaries) participated in the study.
