Overview
The Gender Transformative and Responsible Agribusiness Investments in South East Asia II (GRAISEA 2) in Vietnam focuses on rice and shrimp that are value chains of major economic and social importance in the Mekong Delta Area in the South of Vietnam. The project aims to bring about opportunities for marginalised women and men in the agriculture sector by promoting inclusive value chains that respect human rights, empower women, and support climate resilience.
The baseline study of the program is carried out in 4 districts (My Xuyen, Ke Sach, Thanh Tri and Vinh Chau) of Soc Trang province from Febuary to May 2019 that aims to: (i) set a starting point for the pre-defined outcomes and impact indicators of GRAISEA MEAL Framework; (ii) provide information for refining indicators and setting realistic targets; and (iii) provide qualitative and quantitative evidence for refining GRAISEA Theory of Change and assumptions.
Methods used to collect information included Semi-Structured Interview (FGD) and Structured Interviews (Producer Survey). The total number of participants in the baseline research is 515 people, in which 340 participants work in the shrimp sector, while the 175 remaining work in the rice one. Out of the 340 smallholder farmers working in the shrimp value chain, 170 of the participants are under the project group and the rest is in a comparison group
