Given the current urgent need for evidence-based policy decisions, this research aims to investigate potential impacts of different attributes of products, including packaging design, health warning on sticks, and price on smoking demand and perception in Vietnam. Specifically, the study answers the following questions:
1) What is the impact of different options of packaging on reducing the demand for cigarettes, preventing uptake of smoking, and raising awareness of harmful effects of smoking?
2) What is the impact of health warnings on sticks on reducing the demand for cigarettes, preventing uptake of smoking, and raising awareness of harmful effects of smoking?
3) What is the impact of different options of tobacco tax increases on reducing the demand for cigarettes, preventing uptake of smoking, and raising awareness of harmful effects of smoking?
4) How do illicit cigarettes affect the effectiveness of increasing the PWLs size, applying plain packaging, and increasing cigarette prices?
5) What is the relative importance of different attributes of products (packaging design, health warning on sticks, price) on reducing the demand for cigarettes, preventing uptake of smoking, and raising awareness of harmful effects of smoking?)?
To answer the research questions, this study employs survey experiments, specifically, Discrete Choice Experiments (DCE).
