Assessement of Economic Modeling Capacity in Vietnam

Overview

The assignment aims to give an assessment of economic modelling capacity in Vietnam. We focus on current capacities of relevant institutions to create and apply macroeconomic models to conduct economic analysis, policy impact assessments and provide robust information and forecasting services to the government institutions of Vietnam. The objects of the survey includes Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) (including the Central Institute of Economic Management (CIEM), Government Statistic Office (GSO), and National Center for Socio – Economic Information and Forecasting (NCSIF)); Ministry of Finance and State Bank of Vietnam. The implementation of the assignment includes two steps: (i) legel review and (ii) in-depth interviews. In the first step, we review number of legal documents about the roles, tasks and responsibilities of each institution. After that, key informants are identified as well as invited to attend the interviews. The information collected from these interviews will serve the deeper analysis to capture an accurate picture of the situation on the capacities.
