Overview
The Renovation of General Education Project (RGEP) is implemented during the period 2016 – 2020 in order to help Viet Nam achieve the goal of a comprehensive reform of education and training. The project consists of four main components: i) Support the development of new education programs; ii) Support the development of new textbooks under the new education programs; iii) Support the assessment and analysis of learning outcomes to continually improve the curriculum and textbooks; and iv) Manage project. This study was a part of the RGEP which included a survey of the community’s demand for improvements in the general education program and textbooks. The study results would be important inputs for stakeholders such as the RGEP, MOET, education policy makers, educational administrators, educational researchers, textbook authors and publishers to identify the needs of parents and students for a new education program. In addition, it would provide important information for educational media units and organizations to formulate communication strategies for the new educational program and textbooks. The study employed a comprehensive approach, including a quantitative survey, focus group discussions and key informant interviews with students, parents, education policy makers and administrators. Over 1700 people of these groups were interviewed for the study.
