We study an economy where capital accumulation and<br \/>\ninnovative activity take place within a two sector model. The first sector<br \/>\nproduces a consumption good using physical capital and non skilled<br \/>\nlabor. Technological progress in the consumption sector is driven by<br \/>\nthe research activity that takes place in the second sector. Research<br \/>\nactivity which produces new technologies requires technological capital<br \/>\nand skilled labor. New technologies induce an endogenous increase of<br \/>\nthe Total Factor Productivity of the consumption sector. Physical and<br \/>\ntechnological capital are not substitutable while skilled and non skilled<br \/>\nlabor may be substitutable.<br \/>\nWe show that under conditions of the adoption process of new technologies,<br \/>\nthe optimal strategy for a developing country consists in accumulating<br \/>\nphysical capital first; postponing the importation of technological<br \/>\ncapital to the second stage of development. This result is<br \/>\ndue to a threshold effect from which new technologies begin to have<br \/>\nan impact on the productivity of the consumption sector. However,<br \/>\nwe show that once a certain level of wealth is reached, it becomes optimal<br \/>\nfor the economy to import technological capital to produce new<br \/>\ntechnologies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":0,"template":"","cate_publications":[],"author_publications":[1556,1622,1623],"topic_publications":[],"class_list":["post-8814","publications","type-publications","status-publish","hentry","author_publications-cuong-le-van","author_publications-olivier-bruno","author_publications-benot-masquin"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/depocen.org\/vi\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/publications\/8814","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/depocen.org\/vi\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/publications"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/depocen.org\/vi\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/publications"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/depocen.org\/vi\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=8814"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"cate_publications","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/depocen.org\/vi\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/cate_publications?post=8814"},{"taxonomy":"author_publications","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/depocen.org\/vi\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/author_publications?post=8814"},{"taxonomy":"topic_publications","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/depocen.org\/vi\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topic_publications?post=8814"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
