{"id":8778,"date":"2022-07-27T06:33:42","date_gmt":"2022-07-27T06:33:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/depocen.org\/publications\/technical-efficiency-of-the-vietnams-manufacture-of-chemical-and-chemical-products-a-dual-approach\/"},"modified":"2022-07-27T06:33:42","modified_gmt":"2022-07-27T06:33:42","slug":"technical-efficiency-of-the-vietnams-manufacture-of-chemical-and-chemical-products-a-dual-approach","status":"publish","type":"publications","link":"https:\/\/depocen.org\/vi\/publications\/technical-efficiency-of-the-vietnams-manufacture-of-chemical-and-chemical-products-a-dual-approach\/","title":{"rendered":"Technical Efficiency of The Vietnam&#8217;s Manufacture of Chemical and Chemical Products: A Dual Approach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This paper is on its way to estimate the technical efficiency (TE) level and identify the<br \/>\nsources of technical inefficiency (TIE) of the Vietnam Manufacture of Chemicals and<br \/>\nChemical Products (MCCP) or the chemical industry, using the stochastic frontier cost<br \/>\nfunction and the sample data of 95 MCCP&#8217;s firms drawn from the Economic Census for<br \/>\nEnterprises conducted by the General Statistic Office in 2002.<\/p>\n<p>The empirical results show that the mean TE of the industry is 1.50, implying that the cost<br \/>\nof inefficiency of the MCCP is 50 percent above the costs defined by the frontier and also<br \/>\nprovide that the such firm specific factors as the borrowing to total capital ratio, the service to<br \/>\nintermediate cost ratio, ownership and location are the determinants of TIE of the chemical<br \/>\nindustry.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the TE analysis, some policy implications are proposed for a better performance<br \/>\nof TE in the MCCP.<\/p>\n<p>The manufacture of chemicals and chemical products &#8211; MCCP, is an important industry<br \/>\nthat seems to attract the relatively considerable attention of the State of Vietnam. Despite of<br \/>\ncertain achievements that contribute to scientific and economic development of Vietnam,<br \/>\naccording to the Ministry of Industry, the chemical industry is of low competitiveness,<br \/>\nbackward technology, leading to high production costs, high consumption of raw materials,<br \/>\nthen high prices and poor quality of products. The TE improvement involves the identification<br \/>\nof TE level and determinants of TIE, raising the need for the quantitative study on the<br \/>\nindustry&#8217;s efficiency performance.
