We show that, in some settings,<br \/>\na quality follower has an incentive to contribute money to R&#038;D activity of a quality leader with<br \/>\nthe sole purpose of making the leader\u2019s products even better. The reason behind this motivation<br \/>\nis that the leader\u2019s product quality is serving as an upper-constraint in the decision process of the<br \/>\nfollower regarding product quality selection.
