Specifically, it evaluates firm &#8211; level technical efficiency and identifies the<br \/>\ndeterminants of technical efficiency of these enterprises. The paper uses an econometric<br \/>\napproach based on a stochastic frontier production function with the transcendental form<br \/>\nto analyse 25,411 panel observations of enterprises from five annual surveys conducted<br \/>\nin 2005-2009.<br \/>\nThe results from the estimations reveal that, in general, enterprises in Vietnam<br \/>\nhave relatively high average technical efficiency ranging from 0.01 percent to 74.9<br \/>\npercent. Large-size manufacturing enterprises vary from a negligible percent to 96.11<br \/>\npercent; small and medium-size manufacturing from 0.05 percent to 60.92 percent.<br \/>\nAverage efficiency tends to increase in large size enterprises, but decrease in small and<br \/>\nmedium-size ones in period 2005-2009.<br \/>\nThe paper further examines factors influencing technical efficiency. It gains<br \/>\nsignificant evidence that foreign enterprises do not always work more efficiently than<br \/>\ndomestic ones, depending on the types of ownership cooperation between domestic and<br \/>\nforeign enterprises and on sub &#8211; industries. To be more specific, state &#8211; owned with<br \/>\nforeign partner in (1) food product and beverages, (2) textiles, wearing apparel and<br \/>\nfootwear, (3) energy and chemical sectors have higher efficiency than other ownership<br \/>\ncooperation. However, the highest group is belonged to (2) domestic private with foreign<br \/>\npartner in metallurgical, machinery and other non-metallic mineral products sector, (2)<br \/>\n100% foreign capital enterprise in furniture sector, and (3) 100% foreign capital<br \/>\nenterprise in construction sector.<br \/>\nThe paper also finds that firm age, capital to labour ratio, regional location, types<br \/>\nof ownership, types of sub-industries and some possible interactions among them<br \/>\nsignificantly relate to technical efficiency, albeit with varying degrees and directions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":0,"template":"","cate_publications":[],"author_publications":[1922,1923,1924,1925],"topic_publications":[],"class_list":["post-9273","publications","type-publications","status-publish","hentry","author_publications-lien-phan","author_publications-quang-thanh-ngo","author_publications-lien-phan-en","author_publications-quang-thanh-ngo-en"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/depocen.org\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/publications\/9273","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/depocen.org\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/publications"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/depocen.org\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/publications"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/depocen.org\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=9273"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"cate_publications","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/depocen.org\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/cate_publications?post=9273"},{"taxonomy":"author_publications","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/depocen.org\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/author_publications?post=9273"},{"taxonomy":"topic_publications","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/depocen.org\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/topic_publications?post=9273"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
