{"id":9173,"date":"2022-07-27T06:53:38","date_gmt":"2022-07-27T06:53:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/depocen.org\/publications\/developing-e-skills-for-competitivenessgrowth-and-employment-in-21st-century-theeuropean-perspective\/"},"modified":"2022-07-27T06:53:38","modified_gmt":"2022-07-27T06:53:38","slug":"developing-e-skills-for-competitivenessgrowth-and-employment-in-21st-century-theeuropean-perspective","status":"publish","type":"publications","link":"https:\/\/depocen.org\/en\/publications\/developing-e-skills-for-competitivenessgrowth-and-employment-in-21st-century-theeuropean-perspective\/","title":{"rendered":"DEVELOPING E-SKILLS FOR COMPETITIVENESS,\r\nGROWTH AND EMPLOYMENT IN 21ST CENTURY: THE\r\nEUROPEAN PERSPECTIVE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Modern economies are driven by skilled people, who create and use the<br \/>\ntechnology. e-Skills has been considered as a perquisite for employment in every sectors.<br \/>\nThough the Europe is home to world class technology companies and IT savvy people,<br \/>\nexisting studies revealed that there is a widespread recognition in the EU of an expanding<br \/>\ngap between demand and supply of e-Skills. Far from being an ICT sector issue, Europe&#8217;s<br \/>\ngrowing e-skills shortage is affecting productivity and the competitiveness of all types of<br \/>\norganizations. Further, due to lack of e-skills, millions of European citizens are not able to<br \/>\naccess ICTs. Their inability to access ICTs deprives them to reap the benefits of ICTs.<br \/>\nAdded to these, facing competition from the US and Japan but also increasingly from India<br \/>\nand China, Europe needs more highly e-skilled professionals of its own. Europe&#8217;s education<br \/>\nand training systems have not kept up with the exploding demand for e-skills. This has<br \/>\ninitiated, at different levels, a policy debate about how to better promote e-skills in Europe,<br \/>\nin order to fully reap the potential benefits of ICTs.
